7 Things to Do After the "Yes" So It Sticks

November 6, 2026 · 3 MIN READ · THE DRILLO TEAM

The sale is not finished when you hear a "yes." A "yes" given quickly can come undone once they walk out and doubt creeps back in. A soft "yes" that you do not firm up shows up later as a cancellation or a no-show. Here are seven things to do in the minutes right after the "yes," in the order you'd do them.

1. Get the "yes" a second time, out loud

Get the commitment from the buyer in their own words. This step surfaces hidden doubts while you can still fix them today. A hesitation here reveals a real objection before it becomes a cancellation next week.

Great, I'm glad. One last thing: other than something completely outside your control, is there any reason you wouldn't show up Monday and get started?

2. Stop selling the moment they are in

Every detail you add after their "yes" is a new chance for them to disagree. Adding extra features like a warranty or an app gives them three new questions and one new doubt. Confirm the plan and schedule the first visit now. Let the extras be a bonus next week instead of a complication.

3. Make them say the plan out loud

A person who describes out loud how the plan will work moves from agreeing with you to instructing themselves. This is not admin. The "yes" that survives the drive home is the one with a day attached to it. If they go vague, you have found a soft "yes" that needs firming up before they leave the room.

4. Hand them the pen and let them write the goal

A commitment stays firm when the buyer physically does some of the work. Spoken beats nodded, written beats spoken, and their handwriting beats yours. A goal written by them becomes evidence of who they are. Ask them to write it down.

Write down the number you want to hit by June. That's the target we build toward.

5. Let them book it in their own phone

Your calendar shows your commitment but their phone proves theirs. Typing the appointment into their device makes the plan harder for them to cancel. Do it together, standing right there: you in your book, them in their phone.

6. Get one small promise about showing up

Ending on "see you Thursday" asks for nothing from the buyer. Ask if they will text you if anything changes, then wait for the answer. Their "sure" is a small promise, and naming it back as a "yes" closes it.

Will you text me if anything changes before Thursday? Perfect, I've got you down as a yes.

7. Become the coach in their corner, not the person who sold them

Do not go cold and robotic with paperwork the moment the payment clears. You want to be their coach instead of just the person who sold them a policy. Ask about their first win so they picture themselves following through on the plan.

A lot of the people I train text me when they hit that first win, whatever it is for them. Keep me in the loop, I want to be part of it.

The honest version is the one that holds

A commitment squeezed out under pressure or bought with a heavy discount has an external explanation. These commitments dissolve when the pressure or the discount fades. A smaller "yes" the buyer chose freely outlasts a bigger "yes" you extracted.

Say it before you need it

Relief makes you fall back on autopilot when they agree to the policy. You might say "great, see you Monday" instead of confirming their commitment.
